East Lake Real Estate
a thriving neighborhood with potential yet realized
Sharing borders with Little Five Points, Inman Park, Lake Claire, Edgewood and Druid Hills, East Lake is one of Atlanta's favorite places to call home. Folks in this urban nabe cover many different ages and occupations, but we’ll take a wild guess and say that most of them are into music and fun, and wouldn’t be opposed to a bit of yoga with their fair trade morning brew.
About East Lake, Atlanta
"Living in East Lake is like having your cake and eating to too!" says one long time resident of Daniel Street. It's true, there is a kind of a feeling of satisfaction when living so close to City of Decatur, being able to walk to it's amenities but not have to pay the higher prices or tax rates. Don't get me wrong, East Lake can stand on its own. It's located a striaght-shot 6 miles east of Downtown and Midtown, shares street borders with such popular neighborhoods as Oakhurst and Kirkwood with easy access to major boulevards and freeways. Affordable craftsman and cute, modest, post war bungalows dot the landscape with enough charm to fill a starving heart. Being steeped in Atlanta History and culture add to it's character and make it a smart choice for discriminating Buyers with only distant concerns about public schools or a family class of living.

The community of East Lake was founded in the late 1800's on farmland known locally as Meadow Nook. The widow of Col. Robert Alston (Alston Drive anyone?) sold the property to the owner of an Atlanta streetcar company, who possessed a vision of the perfect town for highlighting the natural watersheds in the area. Five creeks ran into this watershed, offering a perfect opportunity for a dammed lake set amidst the rolling hills and valleys. Land was to be subdivided into parcels of various sizes on both sides of the new lake, with areas set aside for commercial and community concerns. The crowning centerpiece of this new community was a dance and entertainment pavilion set atop the crest of a hill.
