East Atlanta Real Estate
fun, eclectic with great sense of community
East Atlanta is near the epicenter of the city's trend-setting counterculture. The 'hood boasts a diverse mix of dingy bars, a decent smattering of affordable shops and restaurants and the city's highest concentration of hipsters. The music scene attracts an impressive roster of visiting bands.
Just east of downtown Atlanta lies a thriving and culturally unique and urban area known as East Atlanta. At it's core is East Atlanta Village- a lively and eclectic cluster of bohemian shops, dining and night life venues centered at the crossroads of Flat Shoals and Glenwood Avenues. Several comparisons have been made between the East Atlanta Village and a younger Greenwich Village in New York City. However, East Atlanta possesses a definite southern flavor that sets it apart from its northern complement. Over the last decade, East Atlanta has undergone huge population and renovation growth as young professionals seek to move closer to the urban center. The drawing power is in it's location just 3 and half miles from the center of Atlanta's business district with easy access to major freeways and city boulevards. Today, buyers come for the affordable and spacious homes with big yards. At night it's all about the bustle and energy of a thriving entertainment, restaurant, and shopping district. In the morning it's all about the stressfee and short commute into work.

East Atlanta was a major battle ground during the civil war. Stories of fighting heros and lost loved ones fill the history books. After recovering from some of the bloodiest battles in the Atlanta Campaign, East Atlanta grew to become a busy trading center with a variety of businesses from grocery stores, blacksmiths, livery stable, dry goods trader and more.
Economic ups and downs of the next century, segregation in the south and the likes of history took it's tole on the area. Today East Atlanta is poised to become an Atlanta original and is a popular destination for residence and visitors alike. Alternative city vibes, affordable homes and popular events like "East Atlanta Strut" held on the third Saturday in September with food, parades, a 5k run and more keep East Atlanta growing. A few years ago the area was named the "best neighborhood for urban pioneers" by Creative Loafing Magazine. In addition, the Fannie Mae Foundation listed East Atlanta as one of 10 "Just Right" emerging big city neighborhoods.
