About Candler Park, Atlanta
This popular in-town historic community is a refuge located about 3 miles east of Atlanta's downtown business district- completely inside City of Atlanta and Dekalb County. Sharing borders with Fulton County and the neighborhoods of Little Five Points, Inman Park, Lake Claire, Edgewood and Druid Hills, has kept it's location so close to center popular by Atlantans looking for true in-town living. Much of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and features quaint and charming bungalow and craftsman style homes nestled within tree lined streets. The small business district located at the intersections of Mclendon Ave and Oakdale remains beloved much in part to Atlanta originals like The Flying Biscuit Cafe- its first location still open on McLendon Ave. Sunday mornings you'll find a gathering of locals and those who've traveled from points farther- all awaiting a table and a unique taste of Atlanta- the famous, slightly sweet Flying Buscuit.

At the heart of this community is a 55 acre City Park appropriately named "Candler Park" after Coca-Cola magnate Asa Griggs Candler who donated the land to the city in 1922. It features an amazing array of green spaces, known for calming the senses of lunchtime refugees from downtown. Also find a 9 hole golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts, ball fields, children's play areas and miles of walking and jogging paths. Avid park goers, joggers and bikers will grow to appreciate access to continuos, dedicated trails leading from Candler Park into Freedom Park and points farther east right into the bustle of Atlanta.
Aside from the park and walkable from most homes is the esoteric yet popular hot spot- Little Five Points- for edgy shopping and dining experiences and easy access to the newer Edgewood Retail District- an urban inspired shopping plaza for your "big-box" needs should not be forgotten. Worried about traffic conjestion and unsightly parking lots- it survived strong criticism by long time residents upon it's announcement earlier this decade. As it turns out, the well designed district which offers names like Lowe's, Best Buy, Target, Kroger and Barnes & Noble has proven to be a success and a welcomed addition to the areas communities. Before it's development, there were few options for city dwellers looking for more commercial shopping options.
Candler Park was originally known as the city of Edgewood, until 1908 when local citizens petitioned to become part of Atlanta in conjunction with the building of the trolly lines that would service the neighborhood. Many of the homes at this time were larger estates, and have since been subdivided to accommodate the rapid expansion which occurred after becoming part of Atlanta. Candler Park Atlanta real estate began to expand in earnest in the late 1960s and it has not stopped to this day. The community has developed into a multifaceted and diverse area with a remarkably varied population. This community also offers an easy going and relaxed attitude, which is prevalent in all aspects of Candler Park life.
This area is home to some of the most attractive homes in the Atlanta area. Historic Craftsman and Victorian homes alongside old buildings providing condo living rest amid serenely wooded areas and tree lined avenues. No matter what your tastes, it will be easy to find a home that you will love in Candler Park.
